Keeping You Active and Improving Your Quality of Life

Most people initially seek chiropractic care due to pain, often times caused by a recent injury. This is the acute phase of care and it requires quick relief of their pain. Once feeling better some patients desire to correct underlying spinal problems that exist in their spine to prevent additional bouts of pain. This is the remodeling phase of care. Finally, the maintenance care phase is for patients who desire to be treated periodically to remain pain free and prevent spinal degeneration. No matter what your goals may be, our caring Doctors of Chiropractic will help guide you along the path to better health and having an active, fulfilling life.

Phases of Chiropractic Care

Acute Phase (1):

The most common phase for which patients seek out chiropractic care. This phase is often times initiated by an injury or painful area which the patient seeks relief from. Treatments are initially administered at a frequency of three or more times per week and then reduced as progress is being made. This is very dependent on the condition and the severity. The common everyday use of acute-phase chiropractic has produced the misconception that chiropractic is a pain relieving therapy. When, in fact, chiropractic is more optimally used as a preventative type of therapy. Often, by the time you develop pain, your spinal condition is already deteriorated to Stage 2, 3 or 4. This would be similar to asking your dentist to clean your teeth to stop the pain you’re experiencing from a rotten tooth from years of neglect.

The good news is, the majority of chiropractic candidates will see significant reductions of their symptoms by utilizing phase 1. Unfortunately, this often clouds the patient’s perception of why they started chiropractic treatment in the first place, which was to locate and eliminate the cause of the pain versus simply covering up the symptoms. The truth is that phase 1 is only the beginning of what chiropractic can do for your health.

Remodeling Phase (2):

Patients who understand the long term benefits to holistic health will enter this phase to attempt to correct underlying structural and/or functional spinal conditions which may be producing nerve interference. They understand that a small early investment will pay off with huge rewards in the end with more productive, healthier, enjoyable lives. In this phase your chiropractor will attempt to correct the intersegmental and global spinal areas and bring them as close as possible to normal standards. This phase often takes much longer than Phase 1; however clinic visits are less frequent.

Maintenance Phase (3):

This phase is for those individuals who have successfully made it through Phases 1 and 2, as well as those who have no pain and just want to help keep it that way. Patients will use this phase to maintain any prior corrections achieved through prior chiropractic care. If your condition is too far degenerated to go through the remodeling phase, maintenance phase is strongly recommended to prevent any further degeneration. Treatment in phase 3 is recommended at frequency that is less often than phase 2.
